TRAUMA THERAPY

Most people experience at least one adverse life event during their lifetime. In some cases, this results in trauma that creates troubling symptoms. Carly uses several modalities to help clients heal from traumatic experiences. One of these methods is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR).

So what is EMDR?

EMDR is a type of therapy that helps individuals heal from symptoms of emotional distress that may have arisen due to trauma or other adverse life experiences. The traumatic memories will not be erased, but the goal of EMDR is to process through these memories in order to decrease the intensity of the symptoms you may be experiencing.

EMDR uses bilateral stimulation. This means that we will use eye movements and/or sounds in headphones to briefly focus on past traumas and current beliefs one may hold about themselves to reduce the vividness and emotion that are associated with traumatic experiences. EMDR happens in stages. We will not begin processing memories until we have completed the necessary preparation to make you feel safe, grounded, and ready to begin.

Numerous studies have found that EMDR is a very effective treatment for PTSD and other trauma-related symptoms.
